Someone Else?

A dialogue between two people, a man and a woman. The dialogue takes place in an apartment. The woman is the host.
She: “Please take a seat…”
“Thank you,” the man responds.
The mood between the conversing parties is constrained. It seems that the man and woman have never seen each other before.
Silence reigns for a moment.
She: “Have you been here before?”
He: “No, never”.
His eyes rest on the objects on the table. In the reflection on a glass he observes the backrest of the empty chair opposite. Behind the chair, a picture hangs on the opposite wall.
She: “Will you have some tea?”
He: “Gladly.”
The woman walks away from the table.
Beside the picture in the reflection, a door can be seen, probably leading to the next room.
Three teacups and a teapot.
He: “Could I have some sugar?”
She: “Certainly.”
Three identical teacups and a teapot, only on one saucer there are two sugar cubes.
The man looks out the window.
Again a short silence.
The man is about to speak. In the end he changes his mind, though.
The woman looks at him, waiting for him to speak.
The silence continues.
In the end the woman speaks.
She: “May I ask who the third cup is for? Are you expecting someone else?”
